CONNECT POLICE WITH THE COMMUNITY
Law enforcement and those in the justice system must create connections with the community
My neighbors and I voted against defunding the police for a reason. We need more police and we also need better police. We know police-community relations suffer when officers do not know the community members they are policing. I've done work to connect law enforcement with the community since the late '90s, and I plan on using that experience and the resources available to the HCAO to double down on that mission.
I will connect law enforcement with the community by:
Hiring and recruiting qualified prosecutors of color from communities affected by community and police violence
Holding community events with law enforcement in schools, places of worship, and local community centers
Using the office to spotlight good work by law enforcement and hold them accountable when appropriate
